Valve springs are important but often overlooked parts of an engine, keeping the valves closed tightly until they're opened by the cam to release pressure. Powerhouse Products valve spring height micrometers are the easiest way to measure the installed distance between the seat and the retainer. Just install one of these micrometers like you would a valve spring, and then expand the tool until it has seated the valve, locks, and retainer. This simulated pressure allows for accurate readings to within .001 in. There are separate models available for 4 and 6-cylinder engines, and for most V8s—no more guesswork!
